Privacy Policy

Companion & Co / reipet.com — Last updated: June 2025

This policy explains what data we collect when you visit reipet.com, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. Read it. It matters.

What We Collect

Information you give us directly:

  • Name and email address when you subscribe to a newsletter or contact us
  • Any other details you volunteer through a form or email

Information collected automatically when you visit:

  • IP address and approximate location derived from it
  • Device type, operating system, and browser
  • Pages viewed, links clicked, time on page, and referring URL
  • Unique identifiers stored in cookies or similar technologies (more on those below)

We collect this automatic data because running a publication without it is flying blind. It tells us what's working, what isn't, and whether the site is functioning.

Cookies & Similar Tech

We use three categories of cookies and similar tracking technologies:

Strictly necessary: These keep the site running — security tokens, load balancing, session management. You can't opt out of these without breaking things.

Analytics: These measure how people find and use the site — which articles get read, how long readers stay, where they came from. The data is aggregated. We use it to improve the publication.

Advertising: These are set by our ad partners and are described in detail in the next section. They track browsing behavior across sites to serve and measure targeted ads.

You can manage cookie preferences through your browser settings. Most browsers let you block or delete cookies by category. Be aware that blocking analytics or advertising cookies won't break the site, but it does affect how ads behave.

Advertising & Third Parties

Companion & Co is supported by advertising revenue. Ads appear on reipet.com. That's how we keep the lights on.

We work with third-party advertising partners — including ad networks, supply-side platforms (SSPs), and measurement vendors — who serve ads on this site. These partners use cookies, pixel tags, device identifiers, and similar technologies to:

  • Recognize your browser or device across websites
  • Build interest profiles based on your browsing behavior
  • Serve you ads matched to those interests (interest-based or personalized advertising)
  • Measure whether ads were seen, clicked, or acted on

We do not name specific vendors here because the partners change. What doesn't change: these companies operate under their own privacy policies, and their data practices are governed by those policies and by applicable law.

Under US state privacy laws (including the CCPA/CPRA), sharing your data with ad partners for personalized advertising may constitute a "sale" or "sharing" of personal information. You have the right to opt out. Here's how:

  • Browser controls: Block third-party cookies in your browser settings.
  • Global Privacy Control (GPC): Enable GPC in a supporting browser or extension. We honor GPC signals as opt-out requests.
  • Industry opt-out tools: Visit optout.aboutads.info or optout.networkadvertising.org to opt out of interest-based advertising from participating networks.
  • Email us: Send a request to hello@reipet.com (see Your Rights below).

Note that opting out of personalized ads does not mean you'll see no ads — it means the ads you see won't be targeted based on your browsing history.

Your Rights & How to Exercise Them

If you're in the EEA or UK (GDPR/UK GDPR):

You have the right to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of your personal data. You also have the right to data portability and to object to processing based on legitimate interests. Where we rely on consent, you can withdraw it at any time.

If you're in California or another US state with a privacy law (CCPA/CPRA and similar):

You have the right to know what personal information we collect and how it's used, to delete your data, to correct inaccurate data, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of your personal information for targeted advertising.

To exercise any of these rights: Email hello@reipet.com with "Privacy Request" in the subject line. Tell us what you're asking for and enough identifying information for us to locate your data. We'll respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.

We don't discriminate against people who exercise privacy rights.

Retention & Security

We keep data only as long as we need it — typically as long as an account or subscription is active, plus a reasonable period after. Automatically collected log data is generally retained for a shorter period. We use standard technical and organizational measures to protect your data, but no system is impenetrable and we won't pretend otherwise.

Children

Reipet.com is a general-audience publication, is not directed to children under 13, and does not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes

If we change this policy in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top and note it conspicuously on the site. Continuing to use the site after a change means you've seen the updated policy.
